Space optimization and modern workplaces

Berlin Central and Regional Library, Germany

Project description

With over 3.8 million media and 1.24 million visitors every year, the ZLB Foundation is the largest public library in Germany. The objective of the consulting project was to develop a future-oriented usage concept that enables optimum space utilization while taking into account the anticipated increase in staffing needs. To this end, the existing office and functional spaces at both locations of the Berlin Central and Regional Library were reviewed and analyzed with regard to their optimization potential.

The focus was on creating a modern work environment that ensures optimal conditions for teamwork, focused work, as well as hybrid and online meetings within the listed historic buildings. LOGO documented the existing floor space, conducted surveys and interviews with the ZLB departments to identify optimization potential, analyzed the findings, and developed practical implementation strategies for the required space concepts, taking different usage scenarios into account.
