Comparison of Options for Expanding the Gütersloh Campus of Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences

HSBI, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences

Project description

With 2,900 students, the Department of Engineering and Mathematics is the largest technical department at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (HSBI). Currently, academic activities at the Gütersloh campus are conducted in leased buildings that were not specifically designed for university use and, due to their limited space and facilities, are not sufficiently suited for future university operations. Since a 2019 analysis of potential campus locations, the situation for the sites considered at that time has changed in some respects, and a potential new location has been added. Therefore, it became necessary to conduct a supplementary analysis of the new location and to update the analysis for the sites already examined. Several options for the development of space for laboratories, seminar rooms, and offices were evaluated, including possibilities for expansion, with the goal of implementation by 2028, preferably on a contiguous campus site.
