Project management for renaming RWY and TXY designators
Cologne Bonn Airport,
Germany
Project description
Due to the shifting of the earth’s magnetic poles, Cologne Bonn Airport had to redesignate its runways. Runways 14L-32R and 14R-32L were renamed 13L-31R and 13R-31L on April 18, 2024.
This complex process required various measures such as removing current markings and drawing new ones, adapting the signage and systems, and updating the documentation – all during ongoing operations. Consultation with DFS (German air-traffic control), the regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders was essential, while the relevant publications in the aviation sector also needed to be coordinated.
LOGO coordinated the various actions required, from planning to execution.
This was implemented in two successive work packages.
