Refurbishment and functional remodeling of Terminal 2 at Frankfurt Airport
Once Frankfurt Airport’s new Terminal 3 is put into service on the south side of the airport site, Terminal 2 will be closed for extensive conversion and refurbishment works. With T2 in service for 30 years now, upgrades are needed to improve the building, including its energy efficiency and fire protection systems.
One core element of the works is the creation of a shared security area with T1. This will allow passengers to transfer smoothly between the two terminals without the need to pass through security again.
Before planning and construction begins, there will be extensive coordination with various stakeholders, as well as detailed technical and planning surveys. These measures will help to provide a better idea of the extent of the work needed and ensure the greatest possible certainty on costs. The results of these analyses, which include aspects such as building technology, capacitive investigations, and adjustments to aviation security restrictions, will be compiled in the requirements planning.
LOGO is overseeing the coordination process between the developer and the stakeholders involved, creating a database-driven spatial and functional program as part of the requirements planning. Specialist digital software enables all parties involved in the project to view the current status and submit comments at any time. In addition, LOGO is providing transparency in how it is reconciling requirements and conceptual implementation through an interface to the CAD/BIM model. The comprehensive documentation forms the basis for the further planning stages of the functional conversion and technical modernization measures.
