Real estate meets mobility

Conference on November 22, 2024

Successful ideas sharing on forward-looking mobility HUBs

The first HUB conference took place on November 22, 2024 at the House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM), under the theme “Real estate meets mobility.” The event brought together experts from construction, mobility, business, and science to tackle topics surrounding modern mobility HUBs.

Keynote: HUBs as a place for well-being and efficiency

The event kicked off with Prof. Jürgen Follmann, Dean of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, giving a keynote on “HUBs—Relaxed mobility requires well-being.” Dr. Follmann stressed that railway stations, airports, and universities are far more than just functional hubs—they are real estate that needs to be oriented toward people’s needs.

Importance of requirements management

In a presentation on “Professional requirements management,” Huascar Rodriguez and Andreas Klein, Managing Directors of LOGO InfraConsult, highlighted the essential role of detailed requirements management for HUB projects. The duo stressed that, as users and project participants, humans have a significant impact on a project’s success. “Solid requirements management is the key to creating future-proof HUBs. Innovation, cost-efficiency, and sustainability must all be integrated if complex projects are to be successfully executed in the long term,” said Mr. Rodriguez.

Fascinating insights from science and practice

The conference offered further inspiring talks that delivered different perspectives on HUB design:

Stephanie Pudwitz (Managing Director, Fraport Ausbau Süd GmbH): Project Terminal 3—User-oriented requirements management and commissioning in an age of rapid technological change. Thekla Jenny Richter (Team Lead on the Building Project Management Team at the University of Technology Nuremberg): New UTN building—current and future needs. Requirements for medium and long-term development.
Dr. Katja Maaser (Head of Project Master Plan at Frankfurt Central Station) and Thomas Erhart (Transport Department at the City of Frankfurt): More than just a railway station—managing and implementing the diversity of needs and requirements.

In the afternoon, three workshops provided the opportunity to dive into the detail of the conference’s key topics.

The first one involved developing future scenarios for mobility HUBs, with attendees focusing on identifying opportunities and risks using relevant data.

The second workshop tackled the question of how a construction project can get off the ground successfully when the key requirements are effectively defined.

The third revolved around people, with a clear focus on identifying and optimizing customer and user needs.

Special thanks go to Carmen Worch from HOLM GmbH, who moderated the day’s proceedings, as well as the speakers, the exhibitors Juriaan van Meel and Bas Berg from BriefBuilder, Christian Becker and Thomas Seim from Freesixtyfive, and the LOGO team for their proactive support.
