Cologne Bonn Airport: Renaming of RWY and TXY designators

Due to the shifting of the earth’s magnetic poles, Cologne Bonn Airport is faced with adjusting its runways. The previous designation of the runways: 14L – 32R and 14R – 32L need to be changed to 13L – 31R and 13R – 31L by the deadline of April 18, 2024.
This requires various measures such as removing current markings and drawing new ones, adapting the signage and systems, and updating the documentation – all during ongoing operations. Publications and coordination with DFS (German air-traffic control) and other stakeholders are also required. A second work package for adjusting the TWY designators will be implemented after the deadline.
