Groundbreaking ceremony for Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport
More than 400 employees from across Fraport AG, joined by 200 guests from politics and business, took part in the groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of construction of Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport. With this symbolic act, employees sent a strong signal underscoring the airport’s long-term viability and the prospect of creating many new jobs. The event was attended by Volker Bouffier, Minister-President of the State of Hesse, Uwe Becker, City Treasurer of Frankfurt am Main, as well as the entire Executive Board of Fraport AG and Karlheinz Weimar, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
The construction of Terminal 3 represents a key milestone in securing the future competitiveness of Frankfurt Airport and, by extension, strengthening Hesse as a business location. Fraport AG is investing between €2.5 billion and €3 billion in the new terminal, thereby generating significant added value for the Frankfurt region through substantial financial investment. By 2022, an innovative and sustainable terminal with a capacity of up to 14 million passengers per year will be built in the southern area of the airport. Due to steadily rising passenger numbers at Frankfurt Airport, existing Terminals 1 and 2 in the northern part of the airport are expected to reach full capacity in the coming years. Given the ambitious scope of the Terminal 3 project and its total construction period of approximately seven years, commencing construction at this point was essential. With Terminal 3, the airport operator will also elevate its high standards of quality and service to a new level. Source: Fraport AG
